Afrobeats superstar Davido has officially pulled out of the high-profile 50 Cent concert scheduled for July 3 at London’s Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Taking to his Instagram Story on June 14, he cited a “matter of principle and respect” for African artists and their culture.
In a strong statement, Davido said:
“Despite strong fan support and impressive ticket sales… there have been major misalignments concerning key elements required to uphold the integrity and quality of my performance. Unfortunately, these issues remain unresolved.”
He added:
“This decision is not a reflection of turnout or support; it is a matter of principle and respect for my craft, my fans, and the culture I represent.”
The event will proceed with Mary J. Blige and 50 Cent, but notably without Davido. However, he assured fans that his upcoming summer dates on the 5 Alive Tour—including shows in Germany, Portugal, Belgium, Canada, and the U.S.—are still on schedule. He concluded his Instagram statement with a powerful reminder: “Africa must be respected.”
What’s Behind the Move?
-
The concert is part of 50 Cent’s Legacy tour.
-
Davido’s withdrawal stemmed from unresolved logistical and production issues, which he felt compromised his performance standards.
-
He emphasized that low ticket sales were not the issue—it was about upholding his artistic integrity.
-
Though disappointed, fans are told to anticipate a different—but still exciting—summer lineup from him across Europe and North America.
What This Means
-
His bold exit reinforces his commitment to quality, respect, and representation of African artists on global stages.
-
The statement sends a clear message to organizers and promoters: African talent demands equal standards and recognition.
-
This move could set a precedent for other artists from the continent, advocating for better standards and treatment in international shows.
